Cred ca vara incearca sa ne dea o lectie in acest an. Jumatate de zi e soare si ai senzatia ca esti intr-o statiune de pe litoral, desi tu te afli in mijlocul orasului. Apoi, vine o furtuna care transforma vara in toamna. Cerul este vopsit in gri, iar razele soarelui sunt spalate de ploaie. Asadar, anul acesta, vara apare doar episodic, iar banuiala mea este ca ar vrea sa ne invete ca, desi clipele cu soare sunt putine, trebuie sa profitam de ele din plin.

Exact asa am facut si eu, imbratisand ziua insorita cu o tinuta colorata, inspirata din trendul `gypsy`. Imi plac la nebunie imprimeurile gypsy, caderea fustelor de acest tip, materialele folosite, dar si culorile care mai ca nu te cheama la un dans 😉 Imi amintesc si acum momentul din adolescenta in care fustele lungi, vaporoase, au devenit o piesa must-have, iar mai toate fetele isi implorau mamicile sa le cumpere o fusta gypsy. Tu ai vrut/avut o asemenea fusta? Astept sa imi spui printr-un comentariu 🙂

I think summer wants to teach us a lesson this year. Half of the day is sunny and you think you are somewhere at a seaside, although you are nowhere else than in the middle of the town. Then, a storm cames and transforms summer into autumn and washes sunshine away. Summer appears only in episodes this year and I think the lesson we should learn is that, although not too many, sunny moments must be lived to the fullest.

That’s exactly what I did when I embraced a sunny day with a colourful, gypsy outfit. I love gypsy outfits and everything about them – the prints, the materials, the way the skirts fall, the colours that almost invite you to dance 😉 I remember when I was a teenager and the gypsy-skirt became a must-have item. Povesteam odata cu o prietena despre subiectul haine de designer versus obiecte vestimentare „cu autor anonim” sau aflate sub umbrela unui brand mare (H&M, Zara etc.). Evident, prima diferenta dintre cele doua categorii care ne-a venit in minte a fost pretul. „De ce sa platesti de cinci sau de zece ori mai mult pentru o rochie, doar pentru ca a fost creata de un designer a carui semnatura o si poarta?”, a intrebat prietena mea. M-am oprit putin si i-am spus apoi ca alegerea depinde foarte mult de relatia ta cu moda. Desi pasionatii de moda sunt considerati adesea superficiali din oaresice motive, sa stiti ca acest domeniu poate starni pasiuni la fel de puternice precum in cazul colectionarilor de arta. Pentru ca, in cazul oamenilor care o inteleg, moda devine arta. Asa cum pentru un bucatar cu stele Michelin, mancarea este mult mai mult decat o forma de a te hrani, asa si pentru un designer vestimentar, hainele reprezinta infinit mai mult decat niste bucati de material care iti acopera corpul. Si-asa se bifurca si publicul-tinta al fiecarui domeniu: unii oameni vor pur si simplu sa se imbrace. Altii vor sa se exprime prin imbracamintea lor. Si-atunci gasesc diverse forme de a face acest lucru – fie combina piesele obisnuite intr-un mod inedit, fie aleg din start obiecte vestimentare create de oameni care au pornit cu acelasi gand ca al lor: sa poarte haine dupa sufletul lor.

Putini designeri reusesc sa teasa haine cu bucăți de suflet, dar daca ar fi sa ma gandesc la cineva din tara noastra, prima persoana care imi vine in minte este Dana Budeanu. De aceea am multe creatii de-ale ei in garderoba mea. Pentru ca Dana stie ca-mi plac hainele cu povesti. Ea este una dintre putinele creatoare care tin cont de faptul ca intelegerea dintre haina si trup presupune beneficii mutuale – haina flateaza corpul, dar si invers (pentru ca dragoste de unul singur nu se poate). Fascinant este felul in care aceeasi rochie Dana arata altfel pe fiecare persoana, mulandu-se parca dupa sufletul celei care o poarta. Dana creeaza piese „purtabile”, dar fara a fura din spectacolul podiumului. Si-atunci, prefer uneori sa renunt la haine multe si confectionate „pe banda rulanta” si sa-mi aleg un lucru care imi sta bine nu numai pe corp, ci si pe suflet.

I was once talking to a good friend of mine about a controversial topic – designer clothes versus `random` clothing (i.e. no name or belonging to big brands). Of course, the first difference between the two categories is the price. `Why would you pay 5 or 10 times more for a dress just because it was created by a designer?` – this is what my friend asked me. I stopped for a while and then I answered that this choice depends on your relationship with fashion. Although people who are addicted to fashion are sometimes considered superficial, it is important to know that fashion can trigger passions so powerful like those of art collectors. Because, for people who understand it, fashion becomes art. For a chef with Michelin stars, food is more than a way of feeding yourself. And for a designer, clothes are much more than some materials which cover certain body parts. Because some people just dress. Other dress to express themselves. And they find ways to do it, either by combining usual clothes in an unusual way or by choosing some pieces that were created by people who think in a similar way: they want to wear clothes that not only fit their bodies, but their souls as well. 

There are few designers who manage to create such clothes. If I were to think about a Romanian one, Dana Budeanu is the first who comes to my mind. She knows I love clothes that bear stories. And the fact that the relationship between the body and clothes is mutually beneficial – clothes compliment the body, but it also has to be the other way round. I love the way Dana creates pieces of clothing that are definitely `wearable`, but she never steals from the `catwalk momentousness`. And in this case I sometimes prefer to give up on `many` clothes and buy just one dress that helps me express myself.
