Designerii identifica idei pentru noile colectii aproape oriunde – pe strada, in timpul concertelor, in formele naturii, in muzica, chiar si… pe stadion. 😉
Se crede ca istoria tenisului incepe in jurul secolului al XII-lea, cand in preajma manastirilor din nordul Frantei se juca jeu de paume (jocul palmei). Racheta si-a intrat in drepturi abia patru secole mai tarziu, moment in care devine cunoscuta si denumirea de „tenis”.
One of the reasons why fashion has been fascinating me ever since is that it finds its sources of inspiration literally anywhere. Designers identify new ideas for upcoming collections on the street, during concerts, in nature, in music, even… on the stadium. I think the most fashionable sport has always been tennis. But did you know there is a history of the tennis-fashion bond?
People think the history of tennis begins somewhere in the 12th century, when the so-called jeu de paume (the „game of the palm”) was played in monastic cloisters of Northern France. The racket became popular four centuries later, when we also have the first mentions of the name „tennis”. Competitions became known during the 1900s, when ladies used to wear some pretty heavy equipments while playing.

Between the 50s and 70s, tennis players started to show a bit more skin. There were already Vogue editorials that featured this sport.

During the ’80s, the yellow tennis ball was introduced – this colour was much more visible on the screens. Equipments were no longer full-white – as you can see in the photos, players began to wear pastels. In the ’90s, we already have some pretty colourful tennis outfits.
In this picture, Venus Williams is wearing a truly fashionable tennis outfit. Do you like it?
Daca ar fi sa am acum o competitie de tenis, eu as alege cu siguranta o varianta clasica, in care sa predomine albul:
If I were to play today, I would definitely choose a classic option, based on white:
I cannot deny that tennis outfits seem so chic to me that I would wear them daily. When did you play tennis the last time? 🙂
